Time to Be Creative

I found this list of 150 Resources for Writers via Heather's blog, A Creative Journal. So many resources! I am overwhelmed by the number, and today despair of being able to use them, because I have so many petty, niggling tasks calling out my name.

A question I have for you:

How do you find time to be creative? How do you glean your creative time?

I am awed by the artwork and writing produced by some of you. I only work part-time and struggle to find time to create. How do you do it? Please comment. I would love to have a list of tips and ideas here!

I think sometimes (not always), but sometimes, it's not about the amount of time you have. i know i can have loads of free time and make nothing and in the past i've had barely any time at all and found myself being very productive. sometimes it's about making a time you sit down each day whether you feel like it or not. you need not wait for inspiration. it's always there inside you waiting. i'm often surprised how at times when i don't feel any inspiration at all, things will just flow out if i can get my butt in the chair.

another way is to make it more fun. set up an art picnic on the floor and make it playful and give yourself permission to make "bad" art. (this often helps me get started)

and sometimes, it's hard to get going when there are other people in our lives who want our attention and there's always more stuff to do. but carving out that creative time is important. sometimes i do joint creative activities with the fiansor (he'll play his guitar while i paint), so we're together and both doing creative things we love.

that was long and rambling, eh? hope it's at least a little helpful! (((hugs)))

Thanks, Leah :) I especially like your idea of making SOME time each day and just seeing what will happen. Thanks for the hugs, too!

Olivia,
I think this is a fantastic question. I hope you don't mind I'm going to post it on my blog tonight for others to answer, hopefully, as well. ;-)

I create all the time while I'm watching TV at night. I knit or I do art journaling with collage, and then I bring the journal to bed and write in it before I go to sleep. I doodle while I'm having meals, specially if I'm at home alone and I use my weekends by inviting creative friends to have lunch or coffee with while all of us create. Good luck with your time managment, I don't think I could live without being creative and making stuff.

Great idea, Hanna, thank you. I like to listen to XM Radio while cooking and doing chores, and I can see myself listening and doing collage.

I'm thinking I can't REALLY live without creating, either.

ps I LOVE YOUR BLOG!
