Love After Love

"Love After Love" is a poem by Derek Walcott, that I've seen three times in as many days. Most recently, I've seen it in "Arriving At Your Own Door: 108 Lessons in Mindfulness" by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I wanted to share it with you.

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

I have not read this poem before Olivia and I love it!

40 jobs! - so many talents you must have!

Patti, I'm so glad.

I used to call myself "jack of all trades and master of none". Now I see it in a much more positive way, as having had lots of adventures. I'll add "many talents" as well, thanks, Patti!

A serene Saturday to you,

O

You're welcome, Virginia. I'm glad you liked it. Note, too, that the poem is by Derek Walcott, found in the book by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I will be sharing more about this book, because it is about mindfulness, a topic many of us are interested in! Joy and aliveness, O
