Wellness Wednesday : Hormones, Dare, and a Birthday!

This Wellness Wednesday I am recovering from a long day yesterday at a doctor's office and a blood lab to have my hormones evaluated. Everything went very well, it's just going to take a while. My lab results won't be back for three weeks. This doctor works primarily with bio-identical hormones, as opposed to my regular doctor who doesn't believe in them and thus wasn't supportive of my efforts to have her test and monitor my use of them.

I could tell that I needed some type of adjustment because in the past few weeks I have only slept in spurts punctuated by hot flashes, have had very low energy (even for me), and have cut back on my activities to only those functions that I must do, cutting down to almost nothing outside the home. Dressing and grooming are exhausting to me and require recovery time...this is no way to live unless it is necessary.

So for the next few weeks while waiting for the blood tests, I'll be doing some monitoring with the new doctor, taking a basic dietary supplement that she likes, and starting on a low dose of Armour thyroid. The latter is very controversial, (see here and here if you are interested in why). Years ago I studied the issue in depth and was on Armour thyroid for several years but ten years ago conventional doctors took me off of it. So we shall see. I'm going to be "hanging in there" for a little while yet.

Mildly disappointed to go a few more weeks like this, but happy to find a path that could lead to wellness and a full life. More hours awake. Less time spent exhausted. (I almost wrote "Less time spent spent.")

If you haven't watched the 90 second video I call "Dare, Unforgettable", please do. I'm reposting it here, again, to encourage you to see it and be inspired:

And last, but certainly not least, today is the birthday of Rick, ever fabulous, my good friend and Official Voluntary happyluau Editor Extraordinaire. Rick is also 14X Winner of the "Man, Did You Help Me Out Award". He describes himself as a Sufi mystic masquerading as a former (ouch) corporate IT manager. He is also the OFG, a proud PV, father of four marvelously creative and powerful daughters, and second banana to his wife, author Julia Rogers Hamrick.

A fantastic Happy Birthday to you, Rick, with wishes for a Shining Year!

Olivia, can't wait to hear what comes of this. I am really sorry to hear you've been so low on energy lately. I have had some spurts of energy of late and oh, my gosh, it's such a blessing when that happens. I feel for you. Do keep us posted. And the video Dare is incredible. Thank you so much.

I've forgotten what those spurts feel like, Kelly...thank you...I do think I'm going to get better. I'm approaching this with all guns firing so to speak and I think that it will work. Plus it's so obvious---hot flashes, age 51, slow metabolism, etc.

I'm SO glad you got to see it! YAY! Please tell Sylvain also; I think he'll like it as well.

xxoo,

O

Good for you to be on your way with a new doctor and testing that will get to some of the issues properly. I think my girlfriend takes Armour thyroid, or did anyway. She's always been more receptive to things outside of the mainstream and has had better success at times with homeopathic type doctors.
I like that picture of you, maybe in Hawaii? Very happy!

And last but not least.... a really happy birthday to your good friend Rick. Wishing him many more years of greatness!! Enjoy.

Thanks so much, Mary. Yes, that is me in Hawaii, happy as usual there.

I hope that Rick did indeed have a happy birthday, and thank you for helping to celebrate here!

Peace and love,

O

I'm crossing my fingers for you Olivia. It does seem obvious doesn't it. Our hormones tend to take over our bodies at times, wreaking havoc. I watch your results with interest as I have my own issues with them.

In the meantime rest and take care of your self.

THANK YOU for reposting the Dare video. It was wonderful and I could so relate to it!

Good luck with your hormone test. Have you been watching the Oprah shows about hormones, menopause, etc? They've been really informative and good - getting more women looking at and considering bioidenticals. I see a natuopath who works with me on this and I've been using bioidenticals for a couple of years and am so happy with the results.

This could make a HUGE difference for you, O!

Olivia--thanks so much for the birthday wishes!

Julia and I had a great day, and I got to see or at least talk to all of my offspring. Perfect birthday for a dad!

Hang in there as you await the results of your tests. Just knowing you are getting closer to what we can believe will be a workable solution may help lift your mood. Julia went through the same waiting period, and it does pass!

Hi Olivia !
Glad to know you are finding things on the path that are offering you more hope and helping you keep faith in getting better and better !

Sometimes I dare like a wolf but not often. I wish I could do it more and many I will someday. I do dare like the seed though...slowly but surely taking root, reaching my stem and leaves upward to take advantage of the light, gaining strength in my being so that I will be ready for the eventual bloom... Different but daring none the less, right ?

Keep well !
Kim

Welcome back, Kim!

I understand daring like yours. Sort of like my JUMP!---not as overt or as dramatic, but somehow there nevertheless.

Peace to you,

O
