"Courage is like — it’s a habitus, a habit, a virtue: You get it by courageous acts. It’s like you learn to swim by swimming. You learn courage by couraging."
--Mary Daly, feminist theologian
Sometimes I feel as though I'm living a wee small life. And then when I read something like this, I'm reminded that all I need to do step out in courage instead of shrinking back in fear. That's what I did so long ago (it seems) in Be Brave.

Oh, sometimes a wee small life is the only life worth living. When I hear the phrase I am reminded of Jodie Foster in Nell... have you seen it? I just watched some scenes on Youtube, and her speech in the courtroom is wonderful. People with "big lives" are not necessarily happy or complete. Olivia, bless you for your courage in stepping out and speaking out.
Thanks, Imelda, what a beautiful blessing and gift to me. Yes, I have seen Nell, but a long time ago when it came out. I will check out the YouTube exerpts. Thank you, O xxoo
Loved this quote and I know myself that the times when I feel fears hands pulling me back from life, to shake them off and step out with courage is so liberating and strengthening. Thanks Olivia, for the inspiration to inject more courage into my life.
Sigh!! Thank you Patti. I like this image of the hands of fear, and of shaking them loose and of stepping out and away from them. Peace be with you, O xxoo
