Golden Light Ceramics

I wanted to give you the link to Stasia's lovely handmade ceramic finger labyrinths that I showed here in a previous post. This first two labyrinths are Chartres Labyrinths.

Note the detail. They are wonderful to touch and trace.

She also makes fairies and more in her business Golden Light Ceramics. I have one of her special fairies as well.

Here is a very small labyrinth for travel with a tracing stylus.

Love Rocks Number Three (Revisited) and Six: Be Brave and Enough

See the Love Rock story here.

I wanted to leave these two Love Rocks in a very special place---Dragon's Teeth Labyrinth on Maui. I have many lovely photos of this labyrinth, so if you're interested in them, see here and here and here for the best. These are all pictures of Dragon's Teeth during the day, but by the time we got there this time it was dusk...by the time we left it was totally dark.

I started out by "charging them up" on my ceramic labyrinth:

At first I'd thought I'd just keep the "Be Brave" rock. By the end of this restorative vacation, though, I felt like it had reminded me of what I'd needed to know and I wanted to pass it on to someone else. So I walked into the center of the labyrinth, where people often leave offerings---that's not really the right word---better is "special material things that remind them of their intention in walking".

I left "Be Brave" and "Enough" with some other, more conventional rocks there. The "Enough" rock fit perfectly because during that trip, it reminded me yet again that what and who I am is enough. And also because, during the trip I'd said "Enough!" to some ways of doing and being that were self-defeating and that I'd become friendly with since I'd lost my way recently. It was a poignant labyrinth walk for me.

I walked out in the dark:

I hope that someone finds these rocks and that they have special meaning for them, as they did for me.

Winter Solstice

I wanted to link to some very special Solstice/holiday posts:

Kate I of Thru My Lens Lightly has twin posts for Dec 21st and Dec 22nd that are well worth a read and a look. They will warm your heart.

View Elderwoman's Solstice post and Christine's Visual Mediation too.

This is a video of my Winter Solstice Celebration, 4:30:

The Magic Stones aren't really magic, of course. They are called Magic Stones! Other resources: Most of the Labyrinths and the fairy was done by Stasia of Golden Light Ceramics. And click on the link on the right sidebar if you're interested in finding out more about Energy Muse jewelry.

Here are the Magic Stones I selected. This video is 1:30 long:

A blessed and beautiful Winter Solstice to everyone!

Maui 2007 Photos of LoveHubbie & Me

This is the last part of my three part Maui vacation pictures, and the best pictures of all. These are all from the last days of our vacation, after our family left and Hubbie and I were on our own. They are all taken by Hubbie Mark or me.

I call them photos of LoveHubbie, because during this vacation, Hubbie s-l-o-w-l-y transmuted into LoveHubbie. You can almost see his metamorphosis in the pictures. We had a magical time, truly.

We started out staying in a hotel, which I would not recommend, unless you like being "where the action is" or have free hotel Starpoints (which we did).

Ahhh, alone at last---me and LoveHubbie. The hotel had a wonderful view, and we enjoyed being alone together. Here's a picture we took in our mirror. In order to really enjoy ourselves, though, we got out a lot, as the hotel was very, very small (just enough room for a bed in the room, with a small bathroom), very crowded, very noisy and bustling---with guests coming and going, and with staff in and out of our rooms for various tasks. It seemed like we had lots and lots of service---maid service, check-on-the-maid service, turn-down service, "I got the wrong room" interruptions, etc.---for much of our stay. So we took lots of trips.

We took a road trip to see Northwest Maui---very rural and picturesque.

We went back to Dragon's Teeth Labyrinth again---I couldn't stay away!

This time we walked way out on the point, since the tide was low and that part is usually covered up. We took pictures of ourselves too :)

The view from our room was the best part of the hotel:

One of our favorite trips was to the Iao Needle and Iao Valley, where the bones of ancient Hawaiian chiefs and ali'i are buried:

We enjoyed our activities and were happy in the hotel, but were looking forward to leaving so that we could get some privacy, get away from the crowds and the noise, and have a kitchen and a washer and dryer again. Here we are in the hotel lobby, which was a lanai---having a roof but open sides (basically no walls, or few walls):

Finally the day came to leave our hotel, and here is one of the spectacular sunsets we bid adieu to:

On to our condo! You might wonder why I chose this next picture out of the 1065 pictures we took. Well, it's because in it you can see one of the best things about our vacation---the balcony on our condo. It was on the 5th (top, as in penthouse) floor of this aging apartment-turned-condo complex, and it was almost 2000 square feet---yes, the balcony itself! We spent most of the rest of the vacation there, out there on that balcony. You can see the view. We could hear the ocean and see Moloka'i and Lana'i.

This was our view on our balcony to the left:

This was our view on our balcony to the right:

LoveHubbie relaxed and was like a different person. So was I!

LoveHubbie cooked in our lovely kitchen in our condo, and we stayed in a lot and just relaxed, watched and listened to the waves, spotted turtles, and best of all---watched the small ships sail into Lahaina harbor.

We ate so much good food here. One of the weirder things we ate was this dragonfruit---oh, so yummy! We bought some delicious goat butter and everything we cooked in that came out tasting like heaven!

LoveHubbie was always picking me plumeria blossoms, every day, from local trees.

Look how happy LoveHubbie is with his new beard, tattoo (albeit temporary), and carved necklace (a gift from me).

This pictures says it all! This was me at dinner our last night on Maui.

Reading

"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body."---Richard Steele

This is a picture of me walking the Dragon's Teeth Labyrinth on Maui last November. I'm currently laid up with a cold and my back is out too, so I'm remembering fondly Great Walks I Have Known, and this is one of them. I can read, though. I want to be grateful for what I can do, not focus on what I can't do. Life is a gift---every day.

Labyrinth Reading List

Many people are interested in the Labyrinth as a spiritual and meditative tool. I recently became interested in the Labyrinth as a spiritual discipline, and have visited and walked several in my local area. The most beautiful and unique Labyrinths I have seen on the mainland are the ones at Harmony Hill, a retreat especially for those living with cancer. The picture above is of me walking my favorite Labyrinth of all, Dragon's Teeth Labyrinth on Maui.

For those of you interested in finding out more about Labyrinths, I can recommend the following Labyrinth books. If you'd like to go right to Amazon to read more reviews of the book, click on the title and you'll be taken directly there:

"The Magic of Labyrinths: Following Your Path, Finding Your Center"
---By Liz Simpson
My favorite all-around book about Labyrinths, if you’re not sure where to start. This book will appeal to everyone, is very visually appealing, and covers many general areas.

"Exploring the Labyrinth: A Guide for Healing and Spiritual Growth" ---By Melissa Gayle West
I enjoyed this book the most, and it got me the most excited about Labyrinths. It emphasized practical and useful applications of Labyrinths for healing and spiritual growth. It had the most applied, concrete, and in-depth psychological explorations, as well as beautiful examples. It is divided into three parts---a general introduction to Labyrinths, information on creating & using Labyrinths, and “playing” & healing with Labyrinths.

"The Way of the Labyrinth : A Powerful Meditation for Everyday Life"
---By Helen Curry
This book was beautiful describing ways of incorporating Labyrinth meditation into your life. It also included an interesting exploration of Labyrinth history…It is a very practical, creative, and applied book. It includes a wealth of rituals, ceremonies, and variations on the use of the Labyrinth.

"Walking a Sacred Path: Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Tool"
---By Dr. Lauren Artress
Best classic Labyrinth book. Reader will benefit most if there is some familiarity with the Labyrinth.

"Way of the Winding Path: A Map for the Labyrinth of Life" ---by Eve Eschner Hogan
The Labyrinth as a metaphor for life. Excellent, moving. I met the author at her home and retreat the last time I was on Maui, and had an opportunity to walk her wonderful and unique Labyrinth there. It was an unforgettable experience.

"The Healing Labyrinth: Finding Your Path to Inner Peace" ---By Helen Raphael Sands
Excellent introductory book, with many beautiful pictures, author’s recounting of her personal journey.
